Understanding Textile vs. Hard Substrate Sublimation

If you have only sublimated textiles before, hard-surface sublimation can be simple! Read this to learn more.

There are many similarities between textile and hard-surface sublimation. Both processes use sublimation inks, sublimation paper, a heat process, and pressure.

However, the printers and presses suitable for sublimating hard substrates have special requirements.

Important factors to consider are:

  • Inkjet dot size
  • The ink system
  • The sublimation paper
  • The temperature and pressure of the heat press. This becomes even more critical with large format printing to avoid color and density variation across the print.
